Round 2, Version 2 New Immigrant Survey (NIS) Restricted Data Released!


The New Immigrant Survey Round 2 (NIS-2003-2), United States, 2007-2009 [Restricted-Use Version 2] (ICPSR 38064) study has been added to the New Immigrant Survey (NIS) data series. The NIS-2003-2 data contain geographic variables related to previous and current living situations, the workplace, and school. These data are available exclusively within the ICPSR Virtual Data Enclave (VDE). With the release of NIS-2003-2, all deposited restricted data for NIS are available for access through DSDR. Public versions of the NIS data will be added to the NIS series at a later date.

NIS is a nationally representative, multi-cohort, longitudinal study of new legal immigrants to the United States and their children. The NIS series includes variables on health and insurance, migration history, living conditions, transfers, employment history, income and assets, social networks, religion, housing environments, and child assessment tests. The series aims to fills gaps of information on immigration policy and processes while, at the same time, benefiting legal immigrants themselves by identifying and addressing their concerns.
